Hearing aids are remarkable pieces of technology that work hard every day to help you stay connected with the people and moments that matter most. Because they're worn for many hours each day, they're exposed to earwax, moisture, skin oils, dust, accidental drops, and everyday wear.
Over time, even well-maintained hearing aids may require professional cleaning, maintenance, programming, or repair. Fortunately, many common hearing aid problems can be corrected without replacing the device.
At Empathy Hearing Aid Center, we provide professional hearing aid repair services for many makes and models. Whether your hearing aids simply need a routine cleaning or require manufacturer repair, we're here to help restore their performance and keep you hearing your best.
Schedule Your In-Home Repair Evaluation
The first step is to contact us to schedule an in-home appointment. We'll ask a few questions about your hearing aids, including the manufacturer, model, approximate age, and the problems you've been experiencing. This information helps us prepare for your visit and determine the best way to evaluate your hearing aids.
In-Home Diagnostic Hearing Aid Evaluation
During your appointment, we'll perform a thorough evaluation of your hearing aids. This may include a listening check, electronic diagnostic testing using manufacturer programming software, inspection for wax or moisture buildup, and other troubleshooting procedures to identify the source of the problem.
Many issues can be corrected during the visit through professional cleaning, replacement of routine maintenance components, software updates, or programming adjustments.

Repair Plan & Service
Once we've completed our evaluation, we'll explain our findings and discuss the most appropriate repair options based on the condition of your hearing aids.
If the issue can be corrected during your appointment, we'll complete the necessary service whenever possible. In many cases, professional cleaning, replacement of routine maintenance components, software updates, or programming adjustments are all that's needed to restore proper performance.
If your hearing aids require specialized equipment, replacement components, or factory service, we'll coordinate the manufacturer repair process on your behalf. Before any manufacturer repairs are completed, we'll review the estimated repair costs, discuss any applicable warranty coverage, and explain your available options so you can make an informed decision. No manufacturer repairs will be performed without your approval.
If your hearing aids are sent out for repair, we'll provide written documentation confirming they have been accepted for service and review the estimated turnaround time. We'll also keep you informed throughout the repair process.
We understand that being without your hearing aids can significantly impact your daily life. Whenever possible, we'll work with you to minimize that disruption. Compatible loaner hearing aids may be available for many established patients while their devices are being repaired. For new patients, rental loaner hearing aids may also be available depending on compatibility, availability, and your individual hearing needs.

Return, Verification & Follow-Up
Once your hearing aids have been returned from the manufacturer, we'll carefully inspect them to verify the repair was completed successfully. Before scheduling your follow-up visit, we'll perform listening and electronic performance checks to confirm your hearing aids are functioning properly and ready to be returned to you.
Once we've verified everything is working as expected, we'll contact you to schedule a convenient follow-up appointment.
During your follow-up visit, we'll:

🧼 Clean Them Regularly
Use the cleaning tools recommended by your hearing care professional to remove earwax, debris, and oils that can block microphones, receivers, and other components.
💧 Protect Them from Moisture
Remove your hearing aids before showering, swimming, or using hair products. If they become damp from perspiration or humidity, allow them to dry thoroughly before storing or charging them.
🏠 Store Them Safely
When you're not wearing your hearing aids, place them in their charger or protective case. Avoid leaving them in extreme heat, direct sunlight, or inside a parked vehicle.
🐶 Keep Them Away from Pets and Small Children
Dogs are especially attracted to hearing aids because of their scent and frequently mistake them for chew toys. Always store your hearing aids in a secure location when they're not being worn.
👐 Handle Them with Care
Although hearing aids are designed for everyday use, they're still precision electronic devices. Handling them over a soft surface can help reduce the risk of damage if they're accidentally dropped.
🔋 Stay Up to Date with Routine Maintenance
Replacing wax guards, domes, tubing, and other routine maintenance components as recommended can help keep your hearing aids performing reliably and may prevent more significant problems from developing.
📅 Schedule Routine Checkups
Regular professional cleanings and performance checks allow small concerns to be identified before they become larger repair issues and help ensure your hearing aids continue performing at their best.
When a hearing aid isn't performing properly, it's natural to wonder whether it can be repaired or if replacement should be considered. The answer depends on several factors, including the age of the hearing aids, the type of problem, warranty status, availability of replacement parts, and your current hearing needs.
Many hearing aid concerns can be resolved through professional cleaning, replacement of routine maintenance components, programming adjustments, or manufacturer repair. In other situations, replacement may be worth discussing if the hearing aids are no longer repairable or if newer technology could better meet your hearing and communication needs.
Following your evaluation, we'll explain our findings, answer your questions, and review the available options so you can make an informed decision that's right for you.
Many hearing aid problems aren't caused by major electronic failures. Earwax buildup, moisture, worn maintenance components, and accidental damage are among the most common reasons hearing aids stop performing as expected. Routine care and regular professional maintenance can often help prevent these issues and extend the life of your hearing aids.
